'Cock and Hen in Springtime'

This woodblock print depicts a Cock and Hen in a springtime barnyard setting. It has superb gauffage embellishments, which complement the art beautifully. This print is after Bairei a print likely published c1900-1910. This is an original print from the period. Bairei's series depicted birds and flowers in the four seasons. Bairei's earlier books on birds (known as kacho-e prints), were recognized as some of the best ever produced, so many artists after him emulated his designs. The artist's cipher and signature are note, but we are unable to identify the artist's marks. This print is beautifully double-matted in green and red mats, and is in acid-free environs. The print sight size is 6.5" x 9", and the frame, which is a custom wood Asian frame, has an ornate notched border, and measures 12.75" x 15.25". It is in fine original condition.     P3041                     $195.00
