Biography: Shufu Miyamoto

Shufu Miyamoto was born in 1950 in Fukuoka prefecture, Japan. He initially pursued studies in oil painting under the tutelage of Ioka Osamu. Transitioning to the realm of art prints, Miyamoto commenced his journey using techniques such as silkscreen and lithography. Subsequently, he shifted his focus to the traditional Japanese art form of woodblock printing.

Shufu Miyamoto has garnered significant recognition for his woodblock landscapes. His artistic style bears resemblance to impressionist paintings, evoking romantic sentiments through adept compositions, vibrant colors, and a mastery of craftsmanship. Miyamoto excels particularly in portraying elements like water, mist, and atmospheric haziness, distinguishing his works with their evocative qualities.

Crafting Shufu Miyamoto's intricate woodblock prints demands not only exceptional skill but also considerable time. Each color necessitates the carving of a separate block, while achieving the intensive color gradations (known as "bokashi" in Japanese) is a challenging process. As a result of this meticulous craftsmanship, Miyamoto's woodblock prints are not inexpensive but remain affordable. Typically, editions range from 100 to 200 prints.
